Bette Jacobs, Separation & Divorce Organizing Specialist, knows from personal experience how daunting and devastating separation and divorce can be.  Pair that with her educational and practical background and you’ve got a professional organizer who provides ideas, information, structure, solutions, systems and products that will reduce stress, create newfound freedom and develop a sense of being in control for her clients going through divorce or separation.

“Untying the Knot” came about from personal experience. Two years ago I left my husband of 30 years.

Yes, this was a difficult decision but had been festering for years of unhappiness. I finally got up the nerve to leave. I rented a 14’ U-Haul got some guys to pack what I thought I needed and drove up to NJ from Florida with my 2 cats, crying and having panic attacks. I didn’t think I would make it but I did. The next day I had a major panic attack and contacted my daughter to be with me while the men I hired to unpack the U-Haul came. I was so emotionally frazzled that I couldn’t do anything. My daughter even had to hook up all my electronics.

I had no support as my girlfriends basically abandoned me. I wasn’t sure of what to do, so I contacted a few attorney’s to get some feedback as to what my next step would be, if anything. What I received from each one was a packet of all the documents and information I needed to gather if I planned to move forward. I couldn’t go on a job interview let alone gather all the information requested. By the way I’ve been a professional organizer for the last 12 years.

I am also an entrepreneur and have a very creative mind. You would think ”hey no problem” I have everything in order. But no – with the overwhelming stress and upheaval that I was going through, there was no way I could handle putting all my documents in order. I hibernated for 6 months! Slowly coming out of my new circumstances and getting used to being alone. I thought about what other individuals going through a separation or divorce are facing. Wouldn’t it be nice to have someone who understands the situation and the feelings of what they are facing and be able to help relieve some of the stress by taking over the compiling of documents and putting them in an organized format. The attorney would then have the material as soon as possible and begin the divorce process. They would have all the information needed in order to give their client the best possible outcome.

And so I began putting together “Untying the Knot” to help individuals put their life in order before, during and after the divorce process.


 Bette’s Educational/Experience Info

Bette earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Merchandising/Business from Drexel University and participated in advanced Graduate Studies in Interior Design there as well.  She has gone on to participate in nationally acclaimed workshops and seminars and has taken continuing education classes in the fields of organizing, time management, goal setting, and personal growth.

She has over 25 years’ experience in office management and administration, as well as financial record keeping.  She is an entrepreneur and businesswoman, was a founder and partner in many businesses.


Bette is a member of the National Association of Professional Organizers (NAPO) and International Academy of Collaborative Professionals (IACP), National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO), and National Association of Professional Women (NAPW).

NAPO is recognized as the association for organizers who operate their organizing businesses in compliance with a code of ethics.  The association defines a professional organizer as someone who:

• Enhances the lives of clients by designing systems and processes using organizing principles and through transferring organizing skills
• Educates the public on organizing solutions and the resulting benefits

IACP is a voluntary dispute resolution process in which parties settle without resorting to litigation.

NAWBO South Jersey is dedicated to providing support, education, mentoring, and networking opportunities for women business owners and their associates in the region.

NAPW defines success as “owning your own power”. NAPW’s mission is to provide an exclusive, highly advanced networking forum to successful women executives, professionals and entrepreneurs where they can aspire, connect and achieve.
